Practicing what I am attempting to preach
Wow, it has been almost 6 months since I have logged into my edublog website. I have been getting used to some new classroom 2.0 tools, in a personal capacity, and within the last few weeks have begun using these tools to create a social network in NING and also a wiki in wikispaces to begin practicing what I preach.
I do see the importance of technology implementation in schools, I really do, and I also see how long it has taken me to get the fire underneath me so-to-speak…and I attended a 4 day training on how to use these tools, and am currently involved in a classroom 2.0 initiative with Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach and Will Richardson. Until this point, I have not spent the needed time on getting “into,” blogging and using social network sites to build capacity with the work I do. How will teachers and teacher leaders begin to do so, especially those who do not have leaders in the field to work with? Are you an educator who has spent time learning about these tools on your own? How did you do it? Where did you begin to even know these tools were out there for you to utilize? Any suggestions for those of us who are beginning with incorporating technology in our classrooms?
You see, I am a staff developer, and do not teach students anymore, rather I work with educators. I do a lot with best practices in education and also deliver staff development in the realm of special education. I am going to try to use more technology in my presentations to create that “fire,” so-to-speak, but would like some advice on where to send people to learn more about these tools, and even more importantly where to go if you need help.
Well, there you have it. Back in July I said I was going to begin using blogs, wikis, and podcasts in an educational setting. Two of those three have been started and I am going to continue to work toward my goal. If you have suggestions I would love to hear ‘em. Thanks!
